BAMS Distance Education Admission: Duration, Syllabus, Fees and Scope

BAMS Distance Education or Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery through distance education is not valid in India. Candidates can only pursue this course through regular colleges. This is a professional degree in which subjects related to Ayurvedic principles and modern medical science are taught. 

Duration of this course is 5.5 years, during which a one-year internship is mandatory. In this, students learn practical skills along with knowledge so that they can become an Ayurvedic Doctor.

BAMS course cannot be done through distance mode. The government does not attest to its validity. It is not possible to do any skill-based course through distance learning.

Can You Pursue BAMS Distance Education in India?

Official Stance

The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), integrated with the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) under the Ministry of AYUSH, has clearly stated that BAMS will not be conducted through distance education. 

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has stated that the course will be conducted in the regular format as it requires practical clinical training.

Common Misconceptions

  • Some people say that IGNOU offers BAMS, but this is completely wrong.
  • Some people also think that a BAMS degree can be obtained online. BAMS degrees earned through online learning are not considered valid in India.

Legitimate Alternatives

You cannot do BAMS through distance education, but you have online and diploma-level options available. Some of the famous online courses are Ayurveda, Herbal Medicine and Wellness. 

This is a good option for people who don’t want to become licensed doctors but want to learn about health.

BAMS Distance Education in Delhi: What Are the Options?

Ayurvedic Institutes in Delhi

Many colleges in Delhi are recognised and offer this course on campus. 

Students have many options like Chaudhary Brahm Prakash Ayurveda Charak Sansthan (CBPACS), Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College and Shri Maru Singh Memorial Institute of Ayurveda and many more. 

To pursue this course, students have to pass the entrance exam, and there are many coaching centres in Delhi for this.

BAMS Distance Education IGNOU: Is It Available?

Many students have the misconception that IGNOU offers a BAMS degree, but that’s not true. IGNOU does not provide this degree. 

However, it does offer related courses like the Post Graduate Diploma in Herbal Medicine, Certificate in Yoga and Naturopathy, and similar programs.

BAMS Eligibility Criteria 

Candidates should have passed 10+2 (Class 12) or an equivalent examination.

As mandatory subjects, they must have Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

For the general category, the minimum percentage required is 50%. For reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC), this percentage ranges from 40% to 45%.

The minimum age should be 17 years, and the maximum age is 25 years. This criteria may vary.

BAMS Distance Education Fees Structure 

BAMS cannot be pursued through distance mode, but we can still get an overall idea of its fee structure by analysing and comparing different colleges.

It is true that if you clear the entrance exam and get admission to a government college, the fees remain quite affordable. However, private colleges also conduct entrance exams, and their fees tend to be a bit more expensive.
